Why create a Screencast?
ScreenCasting

Screencasting is a digital recording of a computer screen most of the time with an audio narration, but can be without narration.  Screencasting allows for students to work at a just-in-time self-pace learning, with access 24/7.  These can be used for assessment review or to be view prior to attending class.  These screencast can be followed-up via email reflection or face to face questions as formative assessment, then further clarification can be done, if necessary.

 

Screencasting allows students to compose and publish digitally, this is a great way tool to  meet new expectations of CCSS, NET*S, and 21 century literacy demands.

ScreenCasting:

ScreenChomp

ShowMe is a product that allows anyone to teach and learn.  ShowMe is a whiteboard that be used to share knowledge and it is "FREE".

 

This easy tool, lets you design a lesson and then share it with a community.

Screen Chomp allows you to record your voice while using annotation tools.  You can use the drawing tools to bring life to your explanation.  You can start on a blank screen or upload a picture.  The recording are then uploaded and you will recieve an url to use on a website or email so you can get back to your recording.

Decide upon a clear purpose for your screencast:

  • Identify your audience

  • Consider what you want the audience to learn/know

  • Prepare a storyboard or pre-write a script

 

Prepare the stage:

  • Think about what you want to capture

  • Clear your desktop of distracting icons

  • Think about background sounds 

  • Make sure your message can be heard

  • Just capture what you want to show

  • Think of other persons monitor,

  • (800x600 is a safe size, I would not go over 1024x768

 

Tell the Story in Scenes:

  • Think about your breaks and transitions carefully

  • Remember you can start over if need be

Careful Narration:

  • Run through the script before recording

  • Follow the script

  • Don't be confusing, or let the message be confusing

  • Speak slowly and carefully
