Tips and Tricks:

 

Spotlight:

the spotlight is the search screen that  you can access by hitting the home button and the first screen of apps, as you start typing a list populates with items like your desired topic.

 

Copy Text:

Double Tap on a word and highlight text or find a paragraph and tap on it four times the entire paragraph is ready to go.

 

Take a ScreenShots:
Push the top powerbutton and the home button at once for a half second and your screen shot will be sotred in the library.

 

Keyboard:

Turn caps lock on  by doubl tapping the shift key on either side of the keyboard.  You can also control the caps lock in the settings, by selecting general and keyboard and then set enable caps.

 

Turn off Keyboard Sound:

Go to settings, tap on sounds,  then change keyboard clicks to OFF or just simply turn sound down.

 

When you are typing website URL in the address bar there is a special ".com" key on the keyboard, if you hold that key for a while other options will appear to choose form like .edu, .org, or .net

 

Webpage Scrolling:

When viewing a website, and you are at the bottom of the page to quickly get back to the top tap on the title bar once. 

 

Zoom in on websites:

take two fingers and spread fingers out in a flicking motion on the screen


Moving Apps:

Tap on the  app, and it will start dancing, then you can slide the app around to anywhere you desire. 

 

Reassign your iPad home button:

By default, double-clicking the home button takes you to the home screen... you can reassign its action in General

 

iPad apps in dock:

There are four default apps in your dock at the bottom of your ipad screeen.  You can add two more, if you like, just move app to the dock.



Double-Click Home:

You can double-click the home button and it will bring up the multitasking bar that shows all programming open, to close apps, hold down on one app until they all start shaking and then close the app by selecting the red circle on the left-hand corner.

 

Sound:

The iPad doesn't have a dedicated mute switch on the iPad.  To get a quick mute hold the button down for two seconds, then you get a quick mute.

 

Save a image:

Fine an image you like, press and hold on the screen and select save image.

 

Customize Wallpaper:

Go to settings, Brightness & wallpaper, go to saved photos and select the image.

 

Save Battery Life:

  • Turn off all apps you are not using

  • Screen Brightness:  Turn down your screen brightness and lights. Go to settings- Brightness & Wallpapers - then drag the slide to the left

  • Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (this means not  youtube, facebook, twitter, email, or games)

 

Shut Down:

You must hold down both the power button and home button until the red slider appears on the screen.  Slide the red slider and then the iPad will shut down.   (just pressing the iPad really turns off the screen)

 

 

Cool Tips and Tricks:


Keyboard Tip:

when typing a line of text, example an email message, simply tap the space bar twice on the keyboard and a dot or period will automatically appear and be followed by a space.

 

Facebook Tip:

Gently Shake iPad to reload your facebook

 

Kindle Reader on iPad:

Amazon offers a free Kindle reader app for iPad, all your e-book purchases will be available immediately.

 

Turn Off Email Alerts:

Go to settings, then General, than sounds, you can turn the chimes off or adjust the volume by the same steps.

 

 

Zoom with three fingers:

having trouble reading something and the zoom with a pinch is not working, double-tap with three fingers, then you can use the view to drag up or down or side by side

 

Quick App Switch:

Using the four-fingered swipe, you can quickly switch between apps that are open, it takes a second before the app you selected is fully active

 

Pinch to Home:

Simply pinch with five fingers to return to the home screen...so cool!

 

Split the Keyboard:

Hold down the keyboard button, in the bottom right and select split the keyboard will divide in two, shrink, and move up slightly allowing you to use both thumbs.

 

Lock Rotation of Screen:

Go to Settings, then general, then under side switch, lock rotation.

 

Built - in Dictionary:

Ever wonder what a word means, just tap on the word it will highlight then you will had an option to copy, define or speak the word.

 

Shortcut replacements:

Save time typing emails or texts by defining a set of shortcut replacements.

'lol' Laugh out loud, some replacements already come with apple.  Define your own shortcuts by going to settings, then selecting general, then keyboard and then shortcuts.

 

Create your own Signature:

Go to Settings, then go to mail, contact, and calendars, then find signature and then create a signature for all accounts or a different one for each individual account.

 

 

 
Accessibility:

The ipad offers assessibility for studetns of all abilities.  There are many built-in features on a Mac that accommodates learning, here are a few:

 

Speak Selection:

Go to general then accessibility and turn speak selection on you can change dialects, highlight words they are read, or even choice of speed of the words read is an option.  Then go in any text and highlight then select speak.

 

Voice Over:
Voice Over is an advance screen reading technology that goes well beyond Text to Speech.

 

Built-in Dictionary:

Assistive Touch:

Can create new gestures for someone with motor issues, example the home button is place on the iPad screen.

Gesture Terminology:
 

Tap - use your fingertip to tap on the screen
 

Pinch - place your thumb and one finger on the screen and pull them together while touching the screen
 

Swipe - touch you finger to the screen and slide it in the direction you want to go
 

Drag - place your finger on the desired location and keep it firmly pressed while moving to the new location
